Knowing God’s Thoughts and Ways

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
(Isaiah 55:8-9)

How can I describe God? What words could I find that would speak of the Unspeakable, what imaginings could I bring forth of the Unimaginable? What definition could begin to define the Undefinable? Or vision that could describe the One Beyond All Comprehension?

God is above all and beyond all-His thoughts and ways higher than the thoughts and ways of man.

And yet, He invites us to draw near and learn of Him, to know His thoughts—thoughts filled with creative ideas, dreams and desires beyond human imagination. He invites us to walk with Him on an adventure of great wonder, and in doing so learn His ways which are far above the ways of this world—powerful ways filled with signs and wonders and miracles.

We can have no greater desire than to know God. Out of love He made us in His image, uniquely created for relationship with Him.

A definition of ‘Relationship’ is a “connection between persons by blood or marriage”. Hold that and consider the words of Paul in Ephesians, chapter 1:

“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”
(Ephesians 1:17)

The word, “KNOW” means an intimate experience in the marriage bed between husband and wife.

Now, go back to ‘relationship’—This is important because our relationship with God is to be an intimate experience. God wants us to share His thoughts and experience His ways in a beautiful union of Lover and Beloved.

Paul clearly reveals the gateway into such an experience is through yielding to the Spirit of God.

Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Revelation and Wisdom. When we yield to Him, He leads us into Secret Chambers where revelation and wisdom are found. We come to Know God’s thoughts by the revelation of the Spirit. We come to Know God’s ways by the wisdom of the Spirit.

This is the path into an ever deepening intimate relationship with the Lord. It is here that we discover our true identity and purpose.

Holy Spirit, I yield to You. Open my eyes to see as You see, and my ears to hear Your voice. Take me deeper into Your Presence where I may know Your thoughts and ways; and, in this knowing become a manifestation of Your Glory.
