A Season of Singing

“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”(Ephesians 5:19-20)

We are coming out of a long season of turmoil. It can be characterized in one word: ‘Terrorism”, the atmosphere of fear driven by hate, anger, bitterness, animosity, division, violence, and much more. It’s like an ocean driven by fierce winds, churning and raging in the storms.

As I’ve been sitting with this, Holy Spirit has shifted my attention away from the raging of the waters and onto the “voice of the Lord is over the waters.” (Psalm 29:3a). It is the ‘Voice’ that I’m thinking about just now as it relates to this change of seasons.

We find ourselves at the threshold of a new season. One, in which, God desires to bring healing to the land. This healing will bring peace where there’s been anger, joy where there’s been sorrow, hope where there’s been despair, confidence and faith where there’s been fear, and a growing sense of unity of purpose as we step forward to reclaim our rightful place as a nation that honors God as a light to the world.

It is the season of the Third Great Awakening in which Blood-redeemed believers in Christ are waking to the reality of the Eternal Kingdom of God within, and coming into alignment with the Sound of Heaven, the Heavenly Pattern of God’s Glory. In doing so, these ‘Awakened Ones’ are beginning to resonate with the Song of the Lord.

The Song of the Lord is that which is described in Psalm 29 as, “The Voice of the Lord”. It is His Voice, or Song, that is the sphere of influence, or bandwidth, that we are created to live, move and have our being within. The more intimate our relationship with God, the stronger His Voice, His Song is within us. Through deepening intimacy we are transformed into His image with ever increasing glory, expanding the Heavenly Pattern as the Song of the Lord grows stronger and stronger. It is the release of this Song that changes the world. That’s the heart of Paul’s words in Ephesians, chapter 5..that we will resonate with and release the Song of the Lord into all the earth.

Our whole purpose is woven into this glorious, symphonic tapestry. This purpose is to be played out in this new season; for God is revealing His sons before all Creation, the ‘Awakened Ones’ singing the Song of the Lord.

“See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come…” (Song of Songs 2:11-12a)
